Dreaded Schedule Change!

Well, starting this coming Monday I will have to follow a new schedule. I HATE when I have to change this around, the first week is always crazy. But, I start having Sophia full-time and will have to adjust. Usually I have from 8:30 am until 11:30 am to get all of my housework done before the daycare kiddies start to arrive. Now I will have to get up at 6:30 am and try to get everything done by 8:30 am. Now, I am so not a morning person!

I know it will take me an hour just to wake up & get motivated! I may have to dust off my coffee pot LOL. But, it also means that maybe I will get my sleep schedule straightened out. I suffer from insomnia and usually don't get to sleep before 2 or 3 in the morning (and that is with prescription sleeping medication). After a couple of days getting up at 6:30 am, maybe I will be able to get to bed by 11 pm.

Well, we will see how it goes!

Menu Plan Monday

This week's Menu may seem a little strange. I went to the store without a list and just picked up what was on-sale then came home & made my menu. I usually do it the other way around.

*Monday:
  Left-over Spaghetti & Meatballs
  Salad

*Tuesday:
   Lemon Pepper Chicken
   Roasted Potatoes
   Green Beans

*Wednesday:
   Tacos
   Salad

*Thursday:
   Whole Chicken In The Crock Pot
   Rice
   Corn

*Friday:
   BBQ Pork Ribs
   Macaroni Salad
   Roasted Brussels Sprouts

*Saturday:
   The Hubbeast Cooks

*Sunday:
  Chicken Fried Rice
   Stir-fried Veggies

Calgon Take Me Away!

Have you ever had "one of those days"? Well, this week, today was my "those" days! It all started so innocently, I did my usual wake up, get coffee on, meet Destiny, watch some news, grab second cup of coffee & book while waiting for the bus. Then my usual let the dog out, clean the living room & kitchen, watch Steve Wilcos. Then Luke was dropped off,  (it IS 11 am), he slept late so it will be a late nap.  Then, Sophia is dropped off. His Mom stated that she JUST woke up from a LONG nap so she is wide awake, but no Lunch yet. She made a snide comment about how she expects to see her first steps instead of me. It wasn't what she said, but how she said it that kind of got under my skin.

I spend the next few hours trying to feed both with 1 high chair, breaking up fights, trying to save the cats, getting bread in the oven (did I mention that I made bread dough earlier today)? And singing several rounds of B-I-N-G-O and Itsy-Bitsy Spider. I tried to get Luke to take a nap around 3:30pm but he just screamed in the crib for 20 minutes (OK, maybe it was 10). By that time Summer was home as was Destiny and it was time to get the Pork Loin in the oven. (Was that on the menu for today?... I forget).

I got that done, homework started, when Luke's father called to see if it was OK if he came late... 9 to 9:30 pm. I said OK while cleaning up apple juice from the floor. Sophia's father picked her up and I thought, whew... I can relax. Then Luke decided to torture the cats one more time. Kirstey came home and said that she wasn't eating what I cooked (I told her fine-go hungry). The Hubbeast called and said that he was going to be late. I am still smiling ;o)

The rest of the night is a blur. Luke crying, the girls fighting, cats screaming, the Hubbeast just sitting there (once he got home). By the time Luke's father picked him up at 10:30 pm, he had earned a new nickname- Grumpy Puppy! By 9pm he was so tired that he couldn't stand himself! I walked the floor, rocked, sang, tried to play, he just sat in the floor screaming.. throwing EVERYTHING I tried to sooth him with. FINALLY he passed out while I was walking with him and slept for 20 minutes while I held him... afraid to lay him down.

It is now after 11 pm, I have had 3 glasses of wine, have a migraine, haven't eaten dinner (it so east to forget) and everyone else is in the bed dreaming away! Sometimes I wonder WHY do I do this? Why do I work so hard? Why does it matter to me so much? Then I remember the look on my daughters faces when they ate that bread today that I made (they REALLY love it) and how they are with the younger children.. How The Hubbeast had a warm dinner to come home to after working 18 hours (and complimented me on how tasty it was). How he tried (notice I said tried) to help entertain Luke tonight. How Luke curled up into my arms tonight finally drifting off  to sleep. How Destiny looks up to me and values my opinion about anything, how Sophia says my name..OOOORAH... (for Lora) and reaches her little arms up for me to pick her up, hugs me and blows me kisses.

Even on this crazy day.... I do this because I LOVE it!  But darn it... sometimes, in the midst of it all, I am wishing for Calgon to take me away!

Thrifty Thursday-Cutting Costs of Prescription Medications

Today I want to talk about being thrifty with prescription medications. At the beginning of the year, we found out that since our medical insurance was changing, we would have to pay for our medications out of pocket. At the time, just ONE of Summer's medications was $550.00 per month (yes, you read that right) and that was for the generic! Well, there is no way we could afford that let alone the medications that Kirstey and I are on so, I did some research, made a few phone calls and came up with the follow helps. I thought that I would share them with you.

1. Call around to different pharmacies to get the lowest price.
2. Ask if the pharmacy has a program to help (most do).
3. Ask you doctor if there is a different medication for the same condition that may be cheaper.
4. Contact the company that makes the medication. A lot of them have programs where you may even get the medication for free!

I am sure that there are other ways to lower medication bills but, this is what worked for us. By utilizing these steps, we cut our medication bill my almost $750 a month! We wouldn't have been able to afford the needed medications otherwise!

Menu Plan Monday-Late


Yes, I know. I'm late this week. I just didn't feel well yesterday so I took it easy. It's been fairly crazy around here lately. Most nights the past couple of weeks I have Luke late. I love him to death but he is VERY active and has learned how to fight taking a nap. So, some days there is no nap and then he is Mr. Crabs by 7:30 pm. Then I have to keep him up until his parents get here between 8 and 10 pm. He is REALLY demanding on the days that I have Sophia. He is SO jealous. She is a good baby and looks at him like he is crazy LOL.

Then we have so many things to do over the next few weeks. Kirstey's play, the Hubbeast's trip to Arizona in April, Kirstey's trip to Tennessee with the chorus group, my MIL is coming for a visit, Kirstey's prom, graduation, college, etc......Sometimes I just wish for a week with no major plans! On the 28th, The Hubbeast and the girls will be going to a drag race. The Hubbeast asked if I wanted to go but, I told him that I would rather stay at home with quiet. Plus, he could have a date day with the girls! So, I am SO looking forward to the 28th!


Our menu plan went well last week. We will see how this week goes!

  Chicken & Dumplings
  Salad

Thrifty Thursday- How I Could Do Better

     I read a lot of blogs about being frugal, thirty, budgeting, etc.... And I have learned a great deal over time. But, I have been thinking of how I could do better with our budget.

     The Hubbeast and I had decided to budget $100 a week for groceries back at the beginning of the year. Now, some weeks I can go as low as $65 but, some weeks it can be as high as $175- and that is AFTER the savings using coupons!I could do a lot better here.

     I also am WAY to indulgent with my teen daughters when it comes to money. I know I am. I know I need to pull in the reigns in this area. I justify giving them extra spending money by telling myself that "They are both on the honor roll", or "but, they are such GOOD girls and give us no problems", etc.... I now that I am not only hurting our budget but I am also not teaching them good financial habits. This is another area that I REALLY need to work on.

     I don't particularly spend money on myself. But I do spend on the children I provide daycare for. It is nothing for me to see something adorable, cute educational, etc... and pick it up for the daycare kiddies. Just this past weekend as I was shopping for a baby shower, I saw a little pink car that changes from a push-behind toy to a ride-on toy. I already have one in green for Luke BUT, he doesn't like to share this toy with Spohia. So.... I picked up the pink one for her. Now I got a steal on it but, I SHOULD have just passed it up and worked with Luke on sharing and taking turns instead.

     I could go on and on about other ways I could be thriftier but, those are my MAJOR slip-ups. What about you? Are there ways that you know that you could improve?

Missing My Hubbeast

     I know, I know.......a very personal subject. But, today that is what I am feeling! The Hubbeast works in the commercial HV/AC  and refrigeration business as a technician. This sometimes means that he can put in close to 100 hours in a week. You would think that after 21 years, I would be use to not seeing his mug for days on end wouldn't you? Well, when the children were younger, I had them to keep me busy 24/7. Now that the oldest two are on their own and the youngest 2 are teenagers I find myself alone a lot of the time after the daycare kiddies leave for the day trying to fill the hours until the Hubbeast pulls in the driveway. And, after his long day, most of the time he goes straight to bed after a quick kiss and an "I'm tired".

     It has gotten so bad that (now... your going to get a BIG laugh out of this), I have been dreaming of him cheating on me the past week . LOL. I told him about it this morning. And, what did he do??? Laughed, patted me on the hiney, and kissed me before heading out the door.I so hope that he is home at a decent hour tonight! I know he is exhausted. And, I miss having him to talk to at night. LOL, books and knitting can only fill so many hours!

Menu Plan Monday

 

Last week's menu plan went OK. We didn't have the pork ribs on Wednesday or the shepherd's pie on Saturday.  I had forgotten about a baby shower I had to attend on Saturday so we just had hot dogs and tots.
The rest of the week went as planned. Hopefully this week will be better!

You may notice a slight difference in the meals. My oldest daughter and I both suffer from PCOS and have been ordered by our doctor to follow a low-carb diet to help with the symptoms. So, you will notice some strange combinations for us. Here is the plan.

*Monday:
  Garlic herb pork lion
  buttered egg noodles (roasted zucchini for me & Kirstey)
  green salad

*Tuesday:
  Ranch Parmesan Chicken
  brown rice
  corn (a salad for me & Kirstey)

*Wednesday:
  Tasty Crock Pot BBQ Country Style Pork Ribs
  mashed potatoes (mashed cauliflower for me & Kirstey)
  green beans

*Thursday:
  Roasted chicken
  some type of pasta (a green salad for me & Kirstey)
  Brussels sprouts

*Friday:
  Left-over buffet

*Saturday:
  Eat-out night

*Sunday:
  Roasted whole chicken
  dressing (roasted root veggies-sans potatoes for me & Kirstey)
  corn on the cob
