Sorry I've Been MIA

This week I decided to take a break from the computer and just spend time with the family. The Hubbeast worked and was on-call up until Thursday and when we could we were trying to finish up on Christmas shopping. We finished Christmas Eve (calling it close again).

My oldest son surprised me and showed up on Christmas day. AND he was in a suit, tie & hat! I hadn't seen him dressed up since his prom 7 years ago! We spent the day cooking, eating, and just enjoying being together. My youngest son didn't make it and was missed terribly. But then I got another Christmas surprise when we traveled to Virgina to visit my Father on the 26th- my youngest son was there!

It has been a WONDERFUL Christmas. Everyone got to spend time together and we are all healthy- what more could I ask for?

I hope you had a terrific Holiday! And I'll be back to posting regularly tomorrow!

Dealing With Life

The past few weeks, I have shared some of the events that have been going on with my family. Summer's seizure & migraine problems, The Hubbeast's panic attacks, etc... But, what I have not shared about is my own battle with depression & panic. For years I have battled depression and and agoraphobia and have been on medication for it. Up until the past few weeks, everything was OK ( except for having to MAKE myself leave my home). Then last Thursday, I had my first panic attack. Out of the blue, nothing seemed to set it off at the time. I started feeling like I couldn't get enough air, like I was running a marathon. I was getting light headed and getting these waves of heat over me. I was also experiencing severe stomach upset and couldn't get the words out that I wanted to say. I thought it was my heart condition (I have aortic regurgitation) and was trying to keep myself calm. Finally, after 45 minutes, I called the Hubbeast. He got home about 20 minutes later and took me to the closest urgent care.

At urgent care, I didn't want the Hubbeast in the room with me so, the nurses thought that he had something to do with what was going on. I tried to explain to them that he didn't even though I was having a hard time breathing. After a few minutes, things seemed to calm some. Then another of the waves hit me. The nurses were so sweet, talking to me so calmly. (they were both men & really cute to boot). They said that they had never seen someone having a panic attack so calmly before (I didn't feel calm). After a bit, I was OK and they sent me home.

Since then, I have felt the same thing several times a day. Not to the same degree as last Thursday but still there. Yesterday the doctor changed my meds to Paxil which is used for depression and panic disorder. I took my first pill this morning, so far so good.

The reason I have decided to share this with everyone is because I know that I am not the only one going through this. And, to give others that are dealing with depression, phobias, and panic attacks hope. Life throws some things at us that are beyond our control, even things physically. Something I have had to learn the past few weeks is that no one can be strong 100% of the time and you are not weak for asking for help.

Hugz to everyone!

This Week's Shopping

This week since I wasn't feeling well, I sent the Hubbeast to the store with a list and the coupon organizer. I know, I must have been crazy right? But, to my surprise he did very well! Here is what he came home with:

  • a 24 pk case of water
  • 40lb box of Tidy Cats kitty litter
  • 2-4lb bags or navel oranges
  • 2 BIG chuck roasts (both over 4 lbs)
  • 1 large box of Hefty trash bags
  • Family sized box of Luzianne tea bags
  • 1 box of 1 gallon freezer bags
  • 1 bottle of shampoo
  • 4 cans of spaghetti & meatballs, ravioli, etc
  • 2.5 lbs of bananas
  • 1 Sunday newspaper
  • 1 1/2 dozen eggs
It came to a grand total of $61.77 with a savings of $21.05! Not too bad for sending the Hubbeast who usually adds all sorts of "extras" to our buggy when we go shopping! We still may have to pick up milk later this week but, other than that we are good to go!

Menu Plan Monday

It's been another week of this darned cold/flu (whatever it is). The Hubbeast came down with it last week, he is just about over it now (he always gets over things faster than everyone else). I also came down with an ear & sinus infection due to the cold. Walking around dizzy is NO fun! Kirstey is also suffering from a lingering cough and is terrified that she is going to lose her voice. She has a solo in this year's Holiday Concert and is also going caroling today. I think she will be OK though.

My family all came over this past Saturday and, of course, the Hubbeast had to work all day. I also had Luke and he was scared of EVERYONE so, I couldn't put him down the whole day. My Mom & Summer did most of the cooking after I got the turkey cooking. I love my family, don't get me wrong, but I was so glad when the day was over. 20 people is a lot at once! LOL- Luke ate so much I really thought that he was going to make himself sick! There was only one thing that he didn't like- deviled eggs. You should have seen the face he made- it was priceless! LMBO!

Now onto the menu for the week. Sorry it is so late but......better late than never!

*Monday (yesterday):
   Philly Cheesesteaks

   Whole Crock-Pot Chicken

   Roast Beef
   Pasta with Herb Butter Sauce
   Green Beans

   Left-Over Buffet

   Eat-Out Night

   Fried Chicken
   Mashed Potatoes
   Brussels Sprouts

Company is coming so I am not sure what we are having yet.
   Probably Roasted Pork Loin
   Sweet Potatoes
   Green Beans
But, don't hold me to it! LOL

Menu Plan Monday

This past week has been hectic! And, this coming up week will be more of the same. I just hope that no one new gets sick this week. Summer, Kirstey & myself have all been battling colds with the colds winning (Summer has bronchitis).

This coming week my whole family will be coming for our Holiday get-together. Mind you, my Mother called me this past Saturday to INFORM me that it will be at my house this year AND that she was giving me 1 week notice! It doesn't matter that The Hubbeast is on-call from Thursday night until Monday morning! Hopefully he will be able to be home to at least eat. We still have to decorate the outside of the house, shampoo the carpet, decorate the inside of the house, and find, put up and decorate the tree by Friday! (My Mother also INFORMED me that she is spending the night Friday night, even though she has NEVER stayed over night at our home). Can you tell that I am a little irked about the way things were thrown on me last minute? LOL

I did, however, manage to do my weekly shopping and menu planning. I went WAY over budget AGAIN- spending a total of $226, but saved $136 with coupons & specials. My pantry is so stuffed I can't put another item in if I wanted to so, until the 1st of the year, it will be minimum shopping for necessities!

Here is the menu for this coming week.

* Monday:
Stuffed burgers (I missed this one last week)

   Roasted whole chicken

   Pork Roast
   Macaroni & Cheese
   Green beans

   Left-overs delight

Eat-Out Night (Mom is going to be here)

   Potato Salad
   Deviled Eggs
   Cranberry Sauce
   Green Beans
   Baked Beans
   Cheese Cake
   Apple Crisp
   Pumpkin Pie
   Whatever else my sister's bring

This is the plan for now. Now to go rest & try to get my sinuses to clear. I HATE being sick, makes me feel so loopy! LOL

I don't know why, but today I have been thinking a lot about freedom. I don't know if it is because one of the women that I provide daycare for is 5+ months pregnant and her hubby is in Afghanistan right now or the fact that I grew up a military brat until I was 16 but, I have been thinking about how great it is to be free to live my life the way I see fit. And how so many people do not have that privilege. So, today I am grateful for our Armed Forces and our freedom!
